For a Public Integrity piece on vaccine misinformation, Alex helped plan a Facebook Live between reporter Liz Essley Whyte and Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, and implemented an Instagram strategy that directed thousands of unique visitors to the piece.

Alex planned and profiled a forum on President Trump's 2017 tax cuts with Robert Reich, the former U.S. secretary of labor, to promote the launch of Public Integrity’s tax-related podcast.

Alex created the social media plan for Public Integrity’s Criminalizing Kids series, which featured dozens of stories from local partners. It included a newsletter swap, an ongoing Twitter thread, and weekly office hours with partner newsrooms on how to localize the data.

Alex wrote and posted tailored Reddit outreach in specific communities for the promotion of a story on wage theft against USPS workers. The posts prompted an influx of comments, which informed a follow-up piece featuring reader responses.

Public Integrity sued the Trump administration for documents related to the Ukraine scandal. Alex developed a widely-used hashtag for the coverage and wrote a viral thread on the findings. Her team published an open letter to the DOJ signed by over 800 readers, and she helped broker a publishing partnership with The Daily Beast.

For an investigation into the impact of expanded health insurance access, Alex wrote a resource guide on what expanded Medicaid coverage means and why it matters.
She also created a flyer to encourage audiences to get the word out to the communities most impacted by the issue and those who might not have access to this information. To reach affected audiences, she also mailed print copies to local gathering spots in Jefferson County, Mississippi, like libraries and community centers.

Using Canva, Alex created multiple templates for weekly post series for Protocol’s Instagram, including a tech calendar, content recommendations and “this week on Protocol,” which highlighted the most-read stories of the week.

Alex wrote and designed a pop-up newsletter on gentrification in Washington, D.C.’s Wards 7 and 8. It was partly informed by reader survey responses.

A letter signed by 16 Democratic senators to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division cited a Public Integrity report that found little response by the federal government to the rise in hate crimes and other incidents against Asian Americans amid the pandemic.
Alex helped source readers’ experiences with COVID-19 related hate via a Google form and tailored outreach.
