Alex Eichenstein is a journalist based in New York.
Alex is a reporter at The Deal, covering M&A and private equity in the healthcare and wellness industries. She graduated from Columbia Journalism School with her M.S. in journalism in May 2023. Expanding on her passion for pop culture, she wrote about the ecosystem of The Bachelor franchise for her master’s thesis.
As a reporting intern for Honolulu Civil Beat, she explored water access issues on government land designated for low-income residents. She was also part of the newsroom’s response to the Maui wildfires. For the coverage, the staff was named a finalist for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting.
At Protocol (RIP), she grew the newsroom’s social presence on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Reddit — yes, Reddit! Previously, at the Center for Public Integrity (also RIP), Alex created a resource guide on Medicaid expansion and spearheaded the “Gentrified Identified” pop-up newsletter.
She’s hopelessly addicted to television, Ben Affleck and telling people she wants to go blonde. Email her at alex.eichenstein@gmail.com.
